The Reaper

1. Another One Bites The Dust--MJAS
I don't like the original song--so repetitive! Just like reincarnation.

2. Car Crash--Cloud Cult

Another haunting car crash song is "MIA" by Emmy Great. I couldn't find a good version on playlist, so you'll have to find it yourself. While making this mix I found a surprisingly large amount of fatal car crash songs on my ipod--perhaps an unconscious nod to my grandfather. Or maybe I have a latent desire to watch NASCAR. God I hope that's not it.

3. (Don't Fear) The Reaper--Blue Oyster Cult
It's a dirty job...

4. Happy Phantom--Tori Amos
Sounds fun--sign me up!

5. The Day I Died--Just Jack
Alanis Morissette may call this ironic--she calls a lot of things ironic.

6. Seasons in the Sun--Terry Jacks
Just another feel good death song...

7. Let the Mystery Be--Benjamin Wagner
I *just* found this song. I love it when lyrics match my personal philosophy.

8. Fog--Mason Proper
I just want to point out that "between you and I" isn't correct grammar because "between" is a preposition and accusative case pronouns come after prepositions, not nominative case pronouns. Alanis Morissette may like this song, and she'd probably call it ironic, just like everything else.

9. Vicious Traditions--The Veils
Not since Kurt Cobain have I enjoyed a musician that sounds like he is singing with marbles in his mouth.

10. Black Fur--Fredrik
Sounds so ancient black parade! Like a goth's wedding song.

Está En Mi Sangre

I'm starting another blog: Está En Mi Sangre

The blog will detail my trip as a monolingual American citizen who is leaving my parrot and chosen family to reunite with my father and Spanish gypsy familia whom I haven't seen in over 15 years. There will be stories, pictures, and perhaps video and music, if you are lucky.

Email me at minimixes@gmail.com to be allowed blog access.

Below is the Spanish artist, Ana Laan, singing "Paradise". I adore the song, but the line about eating a cucurucho de maní before sleeping puzzles me. Singing about the use of Nutella during foreplay is much more appropriate. I'll do my best to inspire such lyrics by hooking up with other artists while abroad...

My So-Called Life

My “My So-Called Life” marathon has ended and left me extremely nostalgic. I miss Angela Chase. And the way Jordan Catalano leans against his locker. I miss the 90s, and being a teen in the 90s. I was so Los Angeles grudge. I rocked the midriff-T, flannel plaid shirt, brown corduroy pants and shit-kicking boots. Yeah, I rocked ‘em better than any 2009 Midwestern lesbian you’d see rooming the country roads of Paint Lick, Wyoming. Trust me, me and my metallic red Ford Thunderbird were bitchin’.

Last night I pulled out one of my many memory boxes (I’m extremely sentimental), and I mentally revisited a high school crush. We were cute, but my lesbian “curiosity” broke us up before we really began. Don’t feel too bad for the dude—weeks later he hooked up with my close friend. Oh and we became "adult friends" later in life. Take a look at one of my (our) first AOL IM conversations:

Him: I already wrote about you in a homework assignment

Me: what did u say? good things I hope?

Him: it was an autobiography

Me: what part did I play

Him: basically it said that in the summer of 97, I met the most perfect girl ever

Me: and I the perfect guy

Him: oh shucks

Me: hey r u doing anything on thurs? school is having a pre game BBQ

Him: i am free to do cartwheels on thrusday if you’d like

Me: okay, I still need to ask grandma

Him: are you talking to anyone else?

Me: sarah was on but just got off now.

Me: u

Him: nope, devoted to you

Me: how sweet

Him: so, what do you think?

Me: think about what?

Him: us

Him: well…

Him: any thoughts or comments?

Me: I think jello is evil [Read: Oh, F*ck! He wants to “talk.”]

Him: that’s not what I meant, but it was funny

Me: what do u think plain jello tastes like?

Me: with no added flavor? [Read: F*ck! Must avoid the “talk.”]

Him: jellie

Me: oh, jellie [Read: F*ck! F*ck!]

Him: what do you think about us?

Me: i think us is a good idea [Read: Well, he is on Surf Team, and Captain of the pole-vaulting team.]

Him: well I don’t

Me: u r evil like jello

Him: i think us is a great idea

Me: what do u think us is? [Read: But we don’t have to be boyfriend/girlfriend, right?]

Him: wonderful

Cliffhanger! I lost page two. :(

Starving Artist/Summer Fun

Most people don’t know this about me, but I'm a very, very, serious artist. I paint. As in Microsoft Paint. Graduate school really hampers my artistic abilities, but I am pleased to announce that I’m officially on summer break. Let the creativity begin!

My gallery is currently located at Google in Santa Monica, but it’s my dream to spread pieces across the Greater Los Angeles Area, or at least 3 other offices by the end of summer.

Here are some examples of my EXTRAORDINARY work:

"Fish"

"Octopus"

"Ham Sandwich (hold the mayo)"

Email me if you want a piece of your very own. And enjoy my first mix of the summer:

1. True Affection—The Blow
2. Rock Lobster—The B-52’s
3. Can I Get Get Get—Junior Senior
4. If I Ever Feel Better—Phoenix
5. Forever—Walter Meego
6. Ready for the Floor—Hot Chip
7. Jungle Drum—Emiliana Torrini
8. Tane Mahuta—Ruby Suns
9. Jogging Gorgeous Summer—Islands

(I make fire! Can you see the image of the Virgin Mary?)

I watched a horror movie. Late at night. Alone. While house-sitting. Did I mention that it was the night before a final? Yeah. Sigh.

1. The Horror—RJD2
2. Body Language/Interpretation—Booka Shade
3. Hello—Poe
4. Female of The Species—Space
5. Monster Hospital—Metric
6. Triumphant—Royksopp
7. Aerodynamic—Daft Punk
